Cause you asked – I know first hand what it feels like. The main charechter was scared to tell their buddie that he loved him cause in this rural town things weren’t as open for same-sex coples. After all there is also the fear of losing the friend compleatly. But they are still close, he wants to celebrate his sucsess as starting a famly or moving to a better place – but he also feels sorrow cause, this is the life he wanted to have with this person. Thoug they ended up cheating – we can’t actually know for sure maybe he had an open marrige or will talk this trough with his wife and develope a system that will work – this still was an happy ending I didn’t get to experience.
